52 people, including RCHS Members and Friends went on a coach trip last Wednesday to Abbey House and Gardens followed by a private group visit to HRH Prince Charles’ Garden Highgrove
Since Wednesday the Committee have received numerous E mail and calls full of excitement and gratitude of what a fantastic day it was. well we can tell you, the committee members that joined the trip had an equally enjoyable thrilling time.
The coach left Ruislip at 9.15 and we arrived at our first stop “Abbey House and Gardens” Malmesbury at approx. 11.15 as planned
The weather was not at its best with a wind blowing and it being cloudy, however it is only May, you can’t have it all. It is Summer after all!
48 of the 52 guests went into the Abbey House and Gardens and saw many delightful sights, one amazing site was a 50 foot fully flowering Rosa Banksia Lutia entwined with a fantastic specimen of Wisteria Chennesis and Lutias sister the White Double. What a sight, you can see from the pictures in this article that lovely effect, however it does not replace being there.
After 3 hours strolling the gardens and the town of Malmesbury we set off in complete excitement to Highgrove. We weren’t let down!
Unfortunately, as I’m sure you are aware, photographs are forbidden at Highgrove, so there are none on this news post to show you, so you will have to take our word for it, WOW!
We were greeted on arrival by 20 Acres of Full Flowing Meadow, the sight of thousands of feet of flowering Camassias was almost too much to handle, one guest let out a massive WOW, which sticks in my mind of the full enthralment experienced by all. Even the guides at Highgrove, ours having 17 years of experience commented that she had never seen the gardens looking so good in all her time. We truly had picked the best week!
A full 2-hour tour of Highgrove Gardens followed which passed so fast and so much to take in, this was followed by a well needed and deserved Afternoon Cream Tea in the Restaurant at Highgrove
We finally arrive home in Ruislip after a fantastic day at 8pm
A well and truly needed sleep followed
Watch out for the next Coach Trip being organised by the RCHS, it might not be too far away.
