The 2023 Spring Flower Show was a great success! We would like to thank everyone who
made it possible: members who entered an exhibit, the committee, support group, judges,
members who helped with catering and clearing tables and everyone who visited.
In addition to providing a great creative outlet and healthy competition to our members the
show managed to attract new members and served as a great community experience for all
the visitors. We were happy to see how many people came despite the cold and rainy
weather. The Show also attracted the attention of our local newspaper The Hillingdon
Herald who will feature our event in an upcoming issue.
We were pleased to see many beautiful blooms despite the unfavourable growing
conditions this spring. There were many types of Daffodils – a great crowd pleaser. We
believe that sending out an explanation detailing the judging criteria helped members to
feel more confident about entering their sunny flowers. Knowing the differences between
trumpets, small cups, large cups and doubles has hopefully became a common skill among
our members now.
As always Cacti and Succulents met with great interest. There was also an amazing stand
where these could be purchased. We would really recommend acquiring plants at our
shows as the value is extremely competitive if not unbeatable.
We had an amazing amount of entries (11) to Floral Art this year which we were very
excited to see. The exhibits were really beautiful and unusual – there was a little bit of Alice
in Wonderland feel to that part of the barn.
This show also broke another record: the prize for most points in General Floral being equal
between three people!
We really liked the photographs that were submitted as well as beautiful handicrafts that
were made with great skill and perseverance. The domestic part did not disappoint either
with some delicious cakes, cookies and jams.
The raffle was very popular, as were the tea and cakes provided by our great catering team
and volunteers who baked them.
Let’s hope that our Autumn Show will be an even greater success – we will try to make it
very accessible by de-mystifying the judging criteria for the autumn flowers and produce.
