Our 2022 Summer Show was an enjoyable success, despite a relatively lower amount of entries. We still were able to show over 120 plants, blooms and crafted items, as well as an excellent selection of photographic entries. The exhibition part of the show was also populated with an impressive display of items made by our members. We were blessed with some very fine weather and the barn was consistently busy throughout the day with many members of the public passing through, admiring the exhibits and frequently asking for growing and gardening tips. Cacti was the most populated single section for plants with many beautiful exhibits. There were also a good selection of roses and many entries to the potted plant categories. The awards for the show were quite widely distributed amongst our entrants with some newer exhibitors doing especially well. Some of our members brought amazing plants, succulents and cacti for sale, which were in excellent condition and at bargain prices. These shows rely on three things to run, firstly and foremostly is entries from all our members so thank you to all those who brought something along. We hope to expand the number of entries for future shows however and will be looking for member feedback in the future as to how to accomplish this. Secondly is the committee and all the helpers who organised and set up the show, tallied scores, stewarded judges as well as supplied and sold the refreshments. These deserve special thanks this time around for the speedy and efficient set up, help during the show and with1 clearing away – many hands make light work! Finally, I would like to thank the judges who really do put a lot of effort into determining which exhibits win awards. We will not be running an Autumn Show this year – in its place is a society trip to RHS Wisley. We will however be back in the Great Barn sometime in spring 2023 for our Spring Show.
