Kerrie Lloyd Dawson – “Plants for a Shady Garden”
Kerrie Lloyd-Dawson and her husband Pete transformed a pretty average garden into a gorgeous retreat which is opened regularly for the National Gardens Scheme.
She initially discovered gardening when she bought a house with a small garden. It was autumn and after receiving the RHS Encyclopaedia of Garden Plants for Christmas she spent winter and spring turning the pages trying to identify the emerging plants. Gardening became a way of winding down from the stresses of working life as a lawyer. She met her husband and a joint gardening passion grew so much that they decided to buy a bigger garden (the house being incidental).
Armed with an updated RHS Encyclopaedia hours were spent selecting plants for the new garden and a plant collecting addiction took hold. The garden was opened for their local festival and very soon were accepted to open for the National Garden Scheme.
Kerrie began writing her blog: A Garden Less Ordinary to share my enthusiasm and to give people ideas about plants and combinations to try in their own gardens. This has developed into a freelance writing career ,alongside working as an Assistant County Organiser for the National Garden Scheme , supporting others to open their gardens.
Her talk for us will be on “Plants for a Shady Garden”, which would have been very welcome this year !
